Trafalgar Place, Brighton - Large Scale Multi-Tenant Survey & BIM Project

Archidata was appointed to carry out a large-scale measured building survey at Trafalgar Place, initially covering Lanchester House and Invicta House before the scope expanded to include Mocatta House, Napier House, two car parks, an estate-wide plan and a full BIM model of Napier House.

The project involved surveying more than 34,000m² of internal floor area spread across 35 floors within four occupied buildings containing 132 separate tenants, many with restricted or security-controlled access.

To overcome the logistical challenges of surveying a live, heavily occupied commercial estate, Archidata established a high-accuracy site control network using a Trimble Total Station and carried out the majority of the survey using the latest GeoSLAM Horizon handheld 3D laser scanner. This allowed rapid and flexible data capture around tenant availability whilst maintaining excellent accuracy and minimising disruption.

The survey was completed in carefully phased stages over several weeks, with provisional drawings issued throughout the programme as areas became accessible. A full photographic survey using a Ricoh Theta 360 camera was also undertaken to support quality control and provide a visual record of site conditions at the time of survey.

Several months later, Archidata was commissioned to produce a detailed LOD 300 Revit BIM model of Napier House. By combining the previously captured laser scan data with a short return visit to inaccessible areas, the model was delivered efficiently without the need for extensive resurvey work.

The project demonstrates Archidata’s ability to deliver complex measured surveys and BIM solutions across large occupied multi-tenant commercial environments with minimal disruption and a high level of technical accuracy.
